What is Amazon Shopper Panel?
Amazon Shopper Panel is an opt-in research program run by Amazon. Members share receipts from purchases made outside of Amazon, and Amazon uses that information to understand shopping habits and measure advertising. In exchange, members earn a monthly reward.
The key thing to know up front: it is invite-only. You cannot simply download the app and start earning. You request to join, and Amazon may put you on a waitlist or invite you when spots open. It is open to a limited number of Amazon customers age 18 and older in the US and a few other countries.
How Amazon Shopper Panel works, step by step
- Request an invite. Visit the Shopper Panel page on Amazon (or search for it in the app store) and sign in with your Amazon account to request to join.
- Wait for approval. Some people get in quickly. Others wait weeks or months, and some never get an invite. There is no way to speed this up.
- Download the app. Once approved, you use the Amazon Shopper Panel app on your phone.
- Upload receipts. Snap photos of paper receipts or forward email receipts from eligible stores. Receipts need to be from product purchases made in the last 30 days. Amazon receipts, including Whole Foods Market and Amazon Go, do not count, and neither do receipts for services like restaurants and gas stations.
- Hit the monthly goal. Each eligible receipt now earns a set amount based on the type of store, up to $10 a month from receipts. At the time of writing, receipts from stores like electronics, clothing, and department stores earn $0.70 each, while grocery, drugstore, big box, and dollar store receipts earn $0.10 each.
- Answer optional surveys. Short surveys can add a little extra to your monthly reward when they are available.
Some members may also be invited to turn on ad verification, which shares information about the ads from Amazon you see on your phone in exchange for more surveys each month. That one is a privacy decision, so read the terms carefully before you say yes.
Realistic earnings and time
Let us be plain about the numbers. If you hit your receipt goal every month and pick up a few surveys, you could get up to $120 a year from receipts, plus whatever surveys add. Many people will earn less, since grocery receipts now earn only $0.10 each. That will not replace an income. It can quietly cover birthday gifts, school supplies, or diapers.
Time-wise, uploading receipts takes a few minutes if you do it as you go. The biggest time sink is forgetting and then hunting for receipts on the last day of the month. A simple fix: keep an envelope in the car or snap a photo at the register.
